Firearms Licensing, Temporary Procedures
Due to the current situation involving COVID-19, we will only accept new/renewal FID/LTC applications with the appropriate fee via mail (application link below). As always, we accept FID/LTC renewal applications with three (3) months or less from the expiration date listed on the FID/LTC card. The department will then mail a receipt indicating that it received the cardholder’s application. If the applicant applied for renewal prior to the FID/LTC card’s expiration, the FID/LTC card shall remain valid after the expiration date on the card for all lawful purposes, until the application for renewal is approved or denied. Follow our checklist, and then mail the completed application to: Central Records, Falmouth Police Dept., 750 Main St, Falmouth, MA 02540. Thank you

FID Cards Issued Prior to October 21, 1998
FID Cards Issued Prior to October 21, 1998 have Expired- Please check your Mass Firearms Identification Card (FID). During the summer of 1998, the Massachusetts Legislature enacted sweeping changes of the state’s firearm laws including the FID Cards that were issued without an expiration date. A person who lawfully owned a firearm, rifle, shotgun, feeding device and/or ammunition on or after October 21, 1998 must reapply for an appropriate License to Carry Firearms (LTC) or Firearms Identification Card (FID). If a firearms license is denied, suspended, revoked or expired, then all firearms, rifles, shotguns, feeding devices and/or ammunition must be lawfully transferred to a properly licensed person or surrendered to the Falmouth Police Department. Please contact the department with any questions at 774-255-4527.
